Material and Structure
GDT RPGA Suture is a synthetic absorbable multifilament suture composed of 90% polyglycolic acid and 10% lactic acid, supplied in violet. The suture is coated with poly(epsilon-caprolactone) and calcium stearate, supporting smooth tissue passage and consistent handling. As a fully synthetic material, polyglycolic acid is not naturally occurring, which means it elicits a significantly lower inflammatory response compared to natural suture materials.
Handling and Tissue Passage
The multifilament construction and low frictional coefficient of GDT RPGA Suture allow for simple, smooth passage through tissue. Its excellent elasticity and coating contribute to reliable handling and exceptional knot security, supporting efficient and controlled wound closure. Its performance profile is comparable to natural collagen sutures, combining the benefits of synthetic materials with familiar handling characteristics.
Clinical Benefits
GDT RPGA Suture provides effective wound support for 10 to 14 days. Around day 5 post-implantation, approximately 50% of the initial tensile strength is retained, after which tensile strength gradually diminishes. Complete absorption is accomplished through hydrolysis, reaching near completion within 40 to 45 days. Its rapid absorption profile, very low tissue reactivity, and excellent histocompatibility make it a dependable option for procedures requiring a fast, clean, and predictable healing response.
Available Sizes and Sterilization
GDT RPGA Suture is available in USP sizes 3 0, 4 0, and 5 0, each supplied with a 3/8 circle 20 mm reverse cutting needle and a 75 cm suture length. The product is sterilized with EO ethylene oxide.
