Material and Structure
GDT Chromic Gut Suture is a sterile absorbable surgical suture made from purified connective tissue composed mainly of collagen and derived from the serosal layer of bovine intestines. The suture is treated with chromium salts to increase resistance to absorption and extend the period of wound support.
Handling and Performance
The coated surface provides smooth and uniform passage through tissue with minimal drag, while maintaining good pliability and strong knot security. The material is designed for easy handling during approximation and ligation procedures and offers high tensile strength that exceeds USP requirements.
Clinical Use and Absorption
GDT Chromic Gut Suture is indicated for general soft tissue approximation and ligation, including ophthalmic procedures, but it is not intended for cardiovascular or neurological tissues. It provides wound support for approximately 14 to 21 days, with complete absorption occurring through proteolytic enzymatic digestion within about 90 days.
Available Sizes and Sterilization
GDT Chromic Gut Suture is available in USP sizes 3-0, 4-0, and 5-0, each supplied with a 3/8 circle, 20 mm reverse-cutting needle and a 75 cm suture length. The product is sterilized with ethylene oxide.
